Soft x-ray tomography is ideally suited to imaging nuclei. We are collaborating with the below researchers to develop computational tools for nuclear analysis.
Dr. Markko Myyllis is developing software tools to automate tasks such using as segmenting reconstructed nuclei and for carrying out high-throughput statistical comparisons between nuclei.
Dr. Sam Isaacson is using soft x-ray tomographic reconstructions of nuclei to mathematically model nuclear processes. Many existing models treat the nucleus as a single, well-mixed volume. Soft x-ray tomography produces quantitative information on the heterogeneous spatial distribution of chromatin within the nucleus. Incorporating factors such as the variation in chromatin density into models of nuclear processes improves their accuracy.
